  1. The United Nations designated 12 May as the International Day of Plant Health to raise global awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, and boost economic development. The theme of 2023 International Day of Plant Health is “Plant Health for Environmental Protection”.
  2. International Nurses Day is annually observed across the globe on 12 May to honour the contribution of nurses to society and acknowledge their role in the overall healthcare system. The theme of International Nurses Day 2023 is “Our Nurses. Our Future”.
  3. Larsen & Toubro (L&T), an Indian multinational engineering company, announced the appointment of S N Subrahmanyan as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), effective 1 October, 2023.
  4. The first mining start-up summit will be held in Mumbai to encourage the participation of start-ups in the mineral and mining sector.
  5. Rhythm Sangwan has won the bronze medal in the women’s 10-metre air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
  6. According to a recent statement by Uttar Pradesh State Government, the Urban Development Department and Lucknow Smart City have collaborated to launch a pilot project called the ‘School Health Program’ in Lucknow to improve the health of students and it has been implemented in three schools as a part of the pilot project. 
  7. Olympian Archer and World Championship Silver Medallist Atanu Das has been re-inducted to the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

  9. Google has announced that it will be rolling out its generative AI chatbot Bard, in over 180 countries, including India.  
  10. Hero MotoCorp’s electric scooter, Hero Vida has set a new Guinness World Record for travelling 1780 kms non-stop in 24 hours and broke the existing world record for maximum distance achieved by nearly 350 kms.  
  11. The All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) has announced plans to establish an online ‘Bank Clinic’ to assist retail bank customers with grievance redressal.
  12. Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on 10 May, 2023 successfully conducted a trial run of delivery of blood bags by drones under its iDrone initiative.
  13. The American multinational financial services corporation, Mastercard has reportedly replaced BharatPe as the global sponsor of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
  14. COP28 President Designate Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber called upon the oil and gas industry to phase out methane emissions by 2030 and align in favour of comprehensive net-zero emission plans by or before 2050.
  15. Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi inaugurated ‘Buddham Saranam Gacchami’ exhibition on 10 May, 2023 at the National Gallery of Modern Arts in Delhi.
  16. Former All India Football Federation (AIFF) Vice-President, Treasurer and Executive Committee Member A.R. Khaleel passed away on 10 May at the age of 91.
